How do you focus on a non centered object using a point and shoot film camera?

How do you Focus on a non centered object using a point and shoot film camera?

I need to know how to focus on a object that is not in the center of a picture using a film camera. (point and shoot) It is auto focus, so I'm guessing I can't focus on a non-centered object.
